GEORGE LAKE TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION AWARD

The George Lake Technology Innovation Award promotes innovative astrophysics and cosmology research in the areas of New Technologies, Instrumentation and Computing, including but not limited to  the development of innovative techniques and instrumentation for astronomy, the development of cutting edge innovative software for the analysis of astronomical observations and data as well as for the development and an analysis of computer simulations, and the development of innovative numerical and data analysis/AI techniques and the like.

Beginning 2024, each of the George Lake Technology Innovation  Awards will be awarded in each even year with EUR 100,000.00 to any astronomers and astrophysicists holding a PhD degree achieved less than 15 years before the application deadline and being affiliated to or largely performing the work to be recognized in a European institute whereby the term European shall include all countries with an astronomical society affiliated to the European Astronomical Society (EAS) and the Scandinavian countries without national astronomical society.

Applications shall include

  • An up to 4 pages project description on the scope, methodology and expected short and long term scientific impact;
  • A brief summary of works previously carried out in the same field demonstrating the skills and experience of the applicant required for the work to be recognized;
  • A concise CV;
  • A list of publications during 5 years preceding the application;
  • A budget plan on how the award will be spent;

The applications are being reviewed and ranked by an expert committee chaired by FONDATION MERAC which will announce the George Lake Technology Innovation Award in the February time scale of the following even year.
